At the heart of the Community Thanksgiving Project lies a simple yet profound mission: to ensure that no one has to spend Thanksgiving alone and that every family and individual in need can enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal. Our project brings together the spirit of community, compassion, and giving, celebrating the essence of Thanksgiving.

Our journey began in 2013, with a passionate individual, John Williams, who cooked all the turkeys himself and, alongside a few close friends and family members, managed delivery efforts of 150 meals. In 2017, the Rotary Club of Lafayette joined us as cook team volunteers. In 2018, Taco Sisters took charge of preparing our turkeys. In 2019, The 705 Group stepped in, purchasing supplies and providing prep volunteers, refining our efforts.

The spirit of our mission, "Helping Others Help Others," drives us to expand our project and serve more throughout Acadiana. Our partnerships have grown, enabling us to reach even more individuals in need. In New Iberia, we expanded to include additional sites and convenient drive-through pickups. On the Northside of Lafayette, our team and satellite locations grew. Our team in Opelousas found new partners, leading to a broader distribution.

Love Of People Community Thanksgiving is on a mission once more!

This year, with the generous support of Anchor Partnerships, our aspirations have grown exponentially. We aim to serve over 3,500 meals across the Acadiana area. Our target locations include Opelousas, Sunset, Lafayette, and New Iberia. Our goal is to have all meals delivered to their designated sites by noon on Thanksgiving Day, allowing guests to either pick up their dinners or enjoy a meal in the company of others in a safe and welcoming environment.

9th Annual Community Thanksgiving

November 2022

LOP Community Thanksgiving was another great success.

The production of the meals was done with more efficiency which allowed us to increase our production.  Thanks to everyone’s great ideas on improvements… keep them coming!

The partnership we have in New Iberia was expanded to include more sites and allow for drive through pickups.

Our team in north Lafayette was also expanded to include more satellite locations.

While our team in Opelousas found new partners to allow for a bigger distribution.

Our fund raising was a little more challenging this year, but we had some amazing Sponsors step up to the plate this year which allowed us to cover our costs.  THANK YOU!!!!

Once again, the effort that Taco Sisters showed in prepping the Turkeys was outstanding, Thank you, Jon!!!

Also, we could not even begin to accomplish this monumental task without the dedication and hard work of our “Game Day” volunteers.

The help from Rotary Club of Lafayette, Rotary Satellite Club, Acadian Total Securities, Rise Physical Therapy and Sports Lab, The 705 and so many more is what makes this all possible. It was an honor to work with each and every one of you!!
With all of these improvements, we were able to make 2,727 meals which got to the people who needed them all across Acadiana!

It is only through the great efforts of all of these people… our community…  that we are able to full fill our mission of “Helping Others, Help Others”. And we do it… for the Love of People.
